No need to Fear

Last night after bathtime Colin and Cody decided to dress up in their costumes and play superhero. So I had Batman (aka Colin) and Buzz Lightyear (aka Cody) running through the house getting "dos bad guys" as Cody would say. It was sooo cute. I wish I had had a camera to capture the moment.

After about an hour Cat decided it looked like fun. So she dressed up as a ninja and joined in. I love to watch them all play together.

The Beginning

Today is Ash Wednesday and thus the beginning of the Lenten season. For those who don’t know (short version) lent is a forty day long liturgical season of fasting and prayer before Easter. The purpose of Lent is for you to prepare through prayer, penitence, alms-giving and self denial for the resurrection.

I have been thinking of what I might be giving up this year for Lent. I think my choice may be seen more as self discipline than a self denial. For those of you who know me, you know that my vocabulary can be rather colorful. Thus my goal for Lent is to keep my vocabulary clean. What are you doing for Lent this year?

A Decade Past

So I have hit a big milestone in my life since the last time I posted. For those of you that do not know what I am talking about, I turned the dreaded 3 oh.

I remember on my 26th birthday I was so upset that I was closer to 30 than 20. But I am over that fear, I am not one of those women that wants to hold onto my youth at all costs for with age comes experience. I cannot believe all that has taken place in my life over the past ten years some of the most memorable are. I have given birth to three beautiful children, watched them grow and learn from me as I have from them; I have married my best friend the love of my life; bought my first house; helped my husband start his own business; built my dream house; started my current job (8 years now) that I love. I cannot wait to see what the next ten have in store.

Time flys

So I have been by myself at work. My boss is out of town at a conference this week and will be off next week on vacation. It is just the two of us here so when he is away it usually gets pretty lonely (as you can imagine). I thought that would be the case this time and that with a slow two weeks I would be able to play catch up on some of my work that is falling behind. (Like mailing the members 2009 dues).


That has not been the case however. This week has flown by and I don't think I have accomplished that much. Where is the time going? And it is not only at work but at home as well. Oh yes, it is Valentines week which means helping my three munchkins make cards and treats for their classmates and friends. Maybe next week will bring some slower days and I will finally gets those dues mailed.

Cookie Cutter

I had a meeting with my five year old's Kindergarten teacher yesterday. She wanted to "dicuss" some of her opinions and observations with me. This was our second confernece, we had one back in the fall after his first report card and this one to follow up on his second. (yes, you get report cards in kindergarten) Both meetings focused on Colin's shyness and his lack of self confidence and not on his performance. And how she feels another year of kindergarten might be the right thing for him to help him come out of his shell. Colin is getting an S (satisfactory) or O (outstanding) in all academic subjects and he never misbehaves at school. Literally he has NEVER gotten in trouble with his teacher in fact during our meeting in the fall she told me she wished he would get in trouble from time to time. (huh)

I guess the point in my post (other than to vent over my frustration) is that we are not all alike nor should we be. We did not all come from the same cookie cutter. What is normal for one is abnormal for another. It is okay that Colin is not a social buttterfly, if he was he would not be Colin. I know my son, he is not going to wake up one day and suddenly be the life of the party. Why in the world would I hold my child back when academically he is doing and can do everything they are asking of him.
